As many of you know, Mark Mulder serves the region as our regional representative to the Regional Runway Safety Committee. Mark is retiring near the end of the calendar year. Mark has done an outstanding job and he will be sorely missed. We wish him all the best as he enjoys his well deserved retirement.
I need to fill his position, hopefully prior to his departure.
The NATCA Representative to the Regional Runway Safety Committee serves as the regional Runway Safety Coordinator. This position is responsible for ensuring regional and local management comply with the national MOU on runway safety; assists FacReps to resolve runway and taxiway concerns; and attends monthly committee meetings with regional management to provide the controllers’ point of view in runway safety matters and attempt to find a common link to, and reduce runway incursions.
The FAA runway safety manager is currently Paul Erway in Fort Worth, but that may change as a result of the new ATO. At present, the committee conducts monthly meetings the 1st Thursday of each month at 1230 at the RO to discuss all runway incursions encountered during the previous month.
If you wish to volunteer for this position, please submit your name to me through your FacRep. It helps me tremendously if you also include a short resume identifying your background, specialized skills, and experience.
If you have any questions, you can contact either me at nswrvp@natca.net or Mark Mulder at mmulder@natca.net.
You should anticipate solicitations like this one to become commonplace over the next few years as the guard within NATCA transfers to the younger generation.
